Our History: Over 20 Years of IT Excellence

National IT Solutions was founded in 2002 by Alex Butera, who identified a significant gap in the quality of IT services available to small and medium businesses (SMBs) compared to larger corporations. 

Alex, driven by a vision to democratise IT support, sought to provide high-quality, reliable services that small businesses could trust. He envisioned a company that supported and worked closely with businesses to find the ideal technology solutions that would help them grow and adapt. 

Over the past two decades, National IT Solutions has grown from a fledgling startup into a respected name in the IT service industry. Throughout this journey, we’ve revolutionised managed IT services for SMBs by delivering consistent service and technical expertise to support the growth and needs of our clients.

As we continue to expand and adapt, our history remains a cornerstone of our identity, reminding us of our beginnings and the responsibilities we carry forward.

Meet the Team Behind National IT Solutions

Alex Butera


As the founder and director of National IT, Alex is an experienced technical consultant and business analyst, with a strong track record of designing systems that reduce costs and improve efficiency for customers.

In previous roles, Alex was the IT Manager for Open Text Australia\NZ (formally IXOS Software), while also providing consulting and implementation management for all Microsoft and Lotus Notes product offerings. He has also worked for Fujitsu Australia and Colonial First State as a systems engineer and solutions architect.

Since 2002, Alex has driven the growth of National IT through referrals from existing clients by providing exceptional customer service, and a focus on ensuring customer outcomes are always delivered as promised – on time and on budget.

Paul Maranzano

Technical Services Manager

Paul joined National IT in 2010 as the service desk and projects team manager. He holds a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, and his industry certifications include Microsoft, VMWare, Cisco, HP, and Sophos.

With over 14 years of experience in the IT field, Paul has a very hands-on approach to operations, and understands what is needed to meet customer and business expectations. His thorough knowledge of ITIL Management allows us to provide a first-class service to all our clients, as he aims to provide innovative solutions for every client call and project that comes through, always focused on meeting and exceeding our customers’ expectations.

National IT Solutions has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to customer service and excellence in IT solutions with the Action Coach Business Excellence Award for Best Customer Service. We were also honoured to reach the finalist stage for the Best Service Based Business Award.

The Business Excellence Awards recognise the best-of-the-best SMBs, and honour the achievements of businesses from all industries and categories on a global scale.

Based on our client satisfaction survey, National IT achieved a near-perfect score: 99.9%. These accolades are a reflection of our team’s relentless dedication to providing our clients with the highest level of service and support.

We believe that our success brings with it the responsibility to contribute positively to our community. This philosophy motivates us to engage in community support and charitable activities that make a significant impact both locally and globally.

We are active supporters of World Vision, a global charity dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need; Variety – the Children’s Charity, which works to empower Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged, or have special needs; and Victorian Wheelchair Sports, an organisation dedicated to providing adaptive sporting opportunities in the Greater Victoria area.

So as long as our doors stay open, we’ll be giving back to our community through a range of donation and support programs.
